Welcome to the Opal Project

'1 in 10 young people self harm'

We are a UK based organisation, which aims to help young people between the ages of 11 and 19 who self-harm. As an organisation we aim to help young people cope with self-harm and to help them develop alternative coping strategies. We understand that it is not easy to live with self-harm or to understand the reasoning behind it. We are also extending the project to create resources for self-harmers and those recovering aged between 19 and 25.

The Opal Project also hopes to raise awareness of, and to educate people about, self-harm. The project is run by young people, for young people and is made up of people who have experienced self-harm in a variety of different ways; some as friends of self-harmers and others as self-harmers themselves.

Our wide range of backgrounds has allowed us to develop a range of resources that are suitable for a wide range of people. We continue to develop these resources, whilst creating new ones to help more people.

The Opal Project will also offer cognitive behavioural therapy based groups such as ‘coping with depression’ and ‘self esteem’.
This will help the teens share experiences common to their illness, educate them and relieve anxieties based around their illness.

Future groups planned from external speakers
Sculpting lessons.
Aromatherapy demonstrations.
Kick Boxing and Self Defence.
Indian head massage lessons.
